Just want to swap HDs. Are they the same size? Easy to do? Thank you.

Yes. I don't recommend booting off it, good chance it will BSOD.

if you are running vista or win 7 this type of swap usually won't cause BSOD, but you would need to reactivate the OS, if plan to permanently swap the hdd.

P.S. this assumes you have no FDE on your hdd.

FDE is only on Seagate drives correct?

Both HDs have Windows 7 Ultimate. How do I reactivate the OS?

you can reactivate the OS by reentering the serial no. of the OS COA.

There is definitely something to be said for the universal compatibility of 2.5" SATA drives and their easy removal/replacement in ThinkPads. At this moment I can take any drive from any of the numerous work and personal ThinkPads that I have, swap it into any other machine, and boot up with nary a hitch. It's kind of re-assuring that I'll never have to worry about a hardware failure seriously interrupting my work...

That's helped on the software side of things by the fact that I run Linux (so it's just plug and play -- no fuss with drivers or activation, etc.), but on the hardware side of things I have Lenovo to thank; two screws are all that need to be removed/replaced for the entire process. That's a heck of a lot nicer than a lot of other laptop manufacturers!
