    Nope, they've been all moved to the 16:9 so you can get 1600 x 900 or 1920 x 1080.

1680 x 1050 is a 16:10 resolution and the LCD companies aren't making those anymore.

Your best option is probably eBay or the outlet.

Is there a reason for the switch? Is it just about watching movies, or is there something else to it?

It is more cost efficient for the lcd panel manufacturer to make the switch, there is also a large group of consumer wanting to watch video on their laptop without the blackbar.

That's why I will keep my T60 and Dell Vostro 1500 because they are 16:10 aspect ratio.

While this is true it makes no sense since movies are generally shot in 2:35.1 LOL. There will still be a bar which is why they are making these 21:9 (vs 16:9) TVs now or whatever.

To the OP, you can probably only get the current machines in 16:10 now and even those are hard to find (new, there is always eBay as was said before).

Even for professional oriented hardware like the Thinkpads? Ah well; I don't know why, but the switch to 16:9 really bugs me. I like 16:10 better.
