Can I do ANYTHING to run a Dell 3009 WFP and Samsung 20" on my T500?

    Hello,

I've looked around can't seem to figure out if there's any way to run my 30" dell and 20 in Samsung (vertical next to it) using my T500. I have the Radeon Mobility 3650 and am running Windows 7 64bit with gigs of ram (not sure if it matters too much).

As a side note - is it possible to replace / upgrade my graphics card?

    Thank you so much.

No you can't replace your card.

You can use a docking station.

I looked into docking stations, but I was under the assumption that my card wouldn't be able to power more than one 30" monitor. Otherwise, I could just use the display port for the 30" and vga for the 20 correct?

Yes, you would use the displayport for the 30inch and VGA for the 20inch.

"This chipset also supports the DisplayPort* interface with up to 2560 x 1600 resolution."

Right - and thank you again for your quick responses. The think I can't figure out I guess is if my GPU can run them both at the same time and if not, is there anything I can do about it?

Either that or lenovo has dvi from USB products too.

I am not sure if you could run both of them as I have never seen a total setup with that high resolution. I have run 1920x1200 and 1600x1200 though.

You should be able to run a 30" using DisplayPort and another monitor (up to 2048x1536) using VGA. However, you can NOT use both of these in addition to your ThinkPad LCD as the 3650 (like almost all GPUs) is only a dualhead card.

you can use the Displayport, which supports up to WQXGA resolution. While, you can run the 20 inch samsung (is this Widescreen or standard aspect ratio LCD) using dvi, by buying the Lenovo usb2dvi adapter, which supports 1600x1200 or WUXGA resolution.

This setup allows you to use the internal LCD too, so effectively you have 3 LCD running simultaneously.

Alternatively, you can use the vidock, which uses your expresscard slot (assuming you did not opt for the smartcard option) and run two additional monitors through a desktop grade graphics card.

Dell 30" on DisplayPort via direct connection or DP -> Dual Link DVI
    Internal LCD enabled
20" Samsung on Lenovo USB-DVI adapter (DisplayLink chip)

The USB-DVI adapter is quite usable, but not exactly going to run games (and is also fairly CPU intensive), but it does work and it's solid and stable. It uses the DisplayLink DL-195 chip.

So you can do it, but you will have compromised performance on the 20".

Hmm - for some reason - I can't get this thing to even recognize my 30" thru the DP. Any suggestions?
