I am planning to buy the Thinkpad Z60 docking station which has both VGA and DVI output. Will I be able to connect two monitors on both slot and expand the screen on the two screen? OR will this be displaying the same screen on both monitors?

I am also planning to add another monitor. Any one have any idea how will this be possible on the docking station (if it can be done)?

    Thanks.

you can use both ports for a dual monitor solution, but you will be limited to 2 screens max (you can't use your laptop display for a third monitor).

one thing is that i noticed that the monitor connected with VGI is a little bit blurry and there is some flickering. i'm not sure if it's a laptop problem or a bad cable, or if the monitor doesn't output a good VGI signal or what.

    tell me how it works.

I believe (I know it works with the T60) that if you get the Advanced Dock, you can put another graphics card in the PCI-E slot. I believe the slot is the size of an x16, but only has x1 worth of bandwidth. Also, there are some restrictions about that cards that will fit in it. If you went this route, you could get a card with 2-DVI ports to support two displays, use the onboard DVI for a third (I believe this works), and possibly even use the onboard VGA for a fourth display. Obviously I haven't done this and don't plan to, but others at the ThinkPad forums have had luck with this. I recommend you head over to http://forum.thinkpads.com/ and see what others have posted.

Thanks for your help. Unfortunately, I don't think it would be possible with Z61t. Even though the docking sttion has both VGA and DVI, DVI port does not work with Z61t.

Stoic TripleHead2Go won't work with Z61t. I already checked that option, from their website I found that that the current Intel Video card is not supported :(.

Think Z61. The DVI port does not work with your z61t? it works with mine.

it might be something that they recently changed, then. if you look at the current site, they list the video card as the GMA950 w/ DVI Pass-Through.

maybe before they didn't offer that DVI pass-through part?

sorry it didn't work out for you. i didn't mean to give you bad information

ItzCooLz, I haven't tried the docking station but came across Agni's review. How old is your laptop? I bought mine last year in August.

He tried it with the docking station and wasn't successful. Now, I am thinking if I should order the docking station and give it a try.

ItzCooLz, do you have Z61t or Z61m/p? I had been hearing from people that DVI won't work with integrated graphics.

thinkz61, i have a z61t, and am using it with the advanced mini-dock.

i remember reading that review too, so i was really surprised when mine worked.

my laptop is pretty new (the first one i ordered arrived at the end of 1/07 and then i got it replaced for the same model about 2 weeks ago). they both worked

like i was saying in my post above, i think it's something they might have quietly fixed by adding that "DVI pass-through," whatever that is.

    Thanks ItzCooLz.

Well, I ordered the Advanced Docking Station. I am planning to a PCI-E video card on that and try 3 monitos. Will update once I test it out.
