Is it possible to add bluetooth capabilities to my T400? I dont want a USB type bluetooth module. Is it possible/cost efficient to open the case and add the OEM bluetooth module?

Does it plug in to the mobo?

    Thanks

I did it. The actual module cost me about 55 shipped, and goes in the screen bezel. Not that hard to do at all.

I was told that by doing so Lenovo will no longer honor the warranty.
Is there any truth to this?

I was told by my area's tech that it did not void the warranty, but your results may vary.

My main worry about doing something like this is breaking the thin plastic of the bezel. I think NBR member jaredy has a howto guide in his sig for a X200.

Ya the bezel is pretty flimsy at least on the x200. But it isn't that difficult of a task all in all.

you can do it, actually there was a special clause a while back that allows you do the upgrade, but there is a chance that the warranty on the LCD unit itself been voided, but not the rest of the systems.

I added the bluetooth module to my T61p. Took my time, used the Lenovo service videos and all went well. Bluetooth works fine!

I'd say any time you open the LCD housing you're on shaky ground. You might get it past whoever is fixing it, but if they want to make an issue of it they can. I'd say there's some risk involved.
