Hello,
While testing my W520 (with i7 cpu), i noticed that CPU whine on AC. Of course it's not as loud as on battery, but it is present, ALL THE TIME. I have another Thinkpad which is the X230 (with i5 cpu) and i do not hear anything whille on AC.. but also on battery!!
First, did Intel changed something with the 2013 cpu lines so that it doesn't make any sound while on battery? And second, does the i7 cpu making noise all the time need to be replaced? Please tell me what you think.
Thanks.

While I don't know much about these two machines, I do know its a fairly common occurrence for other computer models. I had a Dell xps 12 that I ended up selling because of a high pitched whine that no one else could hear when it was on battery power. Many people complain about it, but its not a sign of any hardware failure, its just an electrical whine.

Common issue on battery yes, but not on AC..!

i think if you turn off some c state you can eliminate this.

Not sure i can do that in Thinkpad bios..? I'll check.

there is no bios option for that I use throttlestop for that

Checking C1E box, right? No change with that. Change occurs when i decrease "Chipset clock mod". No effect with clock modulation decrease. Meaning..?
CPU whine on AC, normal or bad processor?
