No, the CPU is soldered to the motherboard

You can replace the motherboard with a faster CPU. It's not that hard, but I would suggest unless you've got a specific need, it's almost never worth the effort or cash, my opinion of course.

I wonder if the board from the X201 or X201s would fit directly in the X200 chassis. Upgrading to a Core i5 or i7 may be worth the effort for some.

The only major difference I could see between the chassis designs of the X200 and X201 is the inclusion of a second speaker on the 201. My wild speculation is that it could very likely work.

I did do an X60s to X61s swap a while ago, actually. It wasn't really that practical but I did enjoy making it. Was a considerable pain to do, though.

I think I saw a X60 board will go into a X61, but not the other way for some reason.

If the X61 board is equipped for WWAN, it's a bit more difficult to get it into an X60 chassis. WWAN models had a second fan in the palmrest area just below the Trackpoint to help cool the wireless card area. If you swap the board without the fan, you get a dead fan error on boot. In order to properly do the swap, you'd need to get the WWAN fan and an X61 palmrest; the fan in particular is fairly expensive.
