I was wondering if it would be possible to stuff a 920XM in one of these thinkpads. Would it work in the machine? Also, is the graphics card MXM upgradeable (on the discrete graphics models)

Not possible, for two reasons - first, the cooling system of the T510 is not built to handle as much heat as the W510's, and therefore will not work well with the heat a quad core processor gives off. The T410 will definitely not be able to handle it, as the fan can start spinning quite quickly even with a dual core processor. Second, the BIOS of the T410 and T510 will not support the quad core, so it won't POST (basically, your laptop won't boot).

No, the GPUs of both the T410 and T510 are soldered to the motherboard, like 99% of all laptops. You will not be able to replace it.

Intel GPU on T410 and T510 is ON the processor not motherboard.

Nvidia chip is on the motherboard.

+1. Ensure you get a model with Intel HD or switchable graphics, then can run a NVidia Optimus DIY ViDock setup with a 3dmark06 of 13k+. i7-640M giving just under 16k.

Given that T410 fan is either off or spinning at loud 3500 rpm's most of the time it would be crazy to stick quad core into it :D
