Hi, I am using IBM Thinkpad T30 type 2366 with 256 RAM installed and other slot not working still budgeting to buy a single 512 or a 1 Gig. but my main concern is that it is a Mobile Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 - M CPU 2.00 GHz but sadly running at 718 MHz, i have tried to reset bios to default didn't win, re-install windows XP SP2 did not win. So i need help on how to get it to run at at-least 1.7/8 Ghz, so i can work much better cause its slow and i know RAM is needed to get the better speed.

Where are you seeing it report 718MHz? If it's in something like CPU-Z it's possible that because your processor isn't being stressed it's automatically downclocking to save energy

did you check power manager settings? make cpu maximum performance. you can also try to turn off speedstep in bios

I have made CPU maximum performance, disable Speedstep but still runs at 718 MHz when i check the System properties.

You can try running HWINFO32 and going to System Summary. It will give you a more accurate clock measurement.

how are you reading this cpu clockspeed? if you are looking @ this info from system information, then it might take a few restarts and its a flip of the coin what it registers when booting windows.

also do you have a battery plugged in? sometimes the old laptops require a battery to be plugged in the laptop to utilize the full capacity of the cpu. yea tell me about it...
