This seems to be a common problem with lots of Intel Core laptops and desktops. There's a high pitched whine/scratchy noise that emanates from the CPU area. After reading about it on the INTARWEB, I discovered that it had something to do with the C4 state on the processor. Unfortunately, disabling the C4 state causes the battery life to go down the crapper so it's not a viable option for me.

Has anyone had this problem as well? Has anyone heard about Lenovo going to fix this problem anytime soon? It's seriously killing me...especially since the noise comes through headphones as well. I'm pretty sure it's not the speakers because it only happens when there is activity (moving the trackpoint, scrolling, etc). Help!

This problem is very common. Unfortunately, there isn't a good solution other than telling Lenovo about it, and have them replace the mother board. The noise is not apparent on all notebooks, it depends on what components were used when manufacturing it (and the assembling I guess). With some luck, you get a motherboard that doesn't resonance annoying frequences.
