    Hi...

Just wondering if 97%-100% CPU usage is normal? My RAM usage shows 1.32 GB of RAM being used.

But I noticed the CPU usage only today. I was using Calibre and it really slowed down the machine, which is what prompted me to check the CPU/ RAM usage. I have no idea whether this was happening earlier, but I felt no lag on the machine before using Calibre.

BTW, I have about 70 processes on with IE9 with 4 tabs running.

Any pointers would be very helpful.

Edit: I don't know if this is the appropriate place to pose this question. Mods, if not, then please accept my apologies and please move to the appropriate section. Thanks.

Really depends on what you're doing, but as a general rule, I'd say no. You should look in task manager to see if there's a rouge app that's over utilizing the CPU.

Well it appears that Calibre and IE9 don't work well together - at least on my machine. I shut down both and restarted the machine. CPU usage dropped to almost 1-2% (fluctuating between 2% and spiking up to 30%, but always falling down to somewhere around 2%).

I did find Calibre to be lagging and now I know why. Also, IE9 seems to use a lot of the CPU - I don't know why though.

Edit: Ummm...no it seems IE9 is NOT hogging the CPU. There must have been something else, which is no longer there in the Task Manager. IE9 open with 5 tabs plus Gmail Notifier Plus is eating up between 2-12%. So, it cannot be IE9.

If you use Process Explorer (link in my signature) and enable the CPU Usage History column, you can track the usage over a period of time so you can actually see what's really using up your CPU cycles over a span of time, not just at a particular instance. 2-12% is a pretty normal idle value to alternate between (although it should be at 2% much more than 12%). It's possible that some tab in IE9 is consuming a lot of CPU depending on what it is, ie, a Flash app.

@midnightSun...Thanks for the Process Explorer link. Aside from IE9, I think there is something wrong with my Calibre installation. I'll check.

    Cheers!
