For anyone who's interested in upgrading their older notebook to a faster CPU, here it is:

I've have the CPU for about a week, but was waiting for the Artic Silver to show up. The whole thing took about 30 minutes from pulling the battery to rebooting. I didn't really follow the manual, but I've done this many times before. It's there if you need it. I haven't noticed much of a difference in most things. I supposed when I code some audio or video that should be a bit faster. It seems to run about the same heat wise.

It was kind of a funny story getting here. I really wasn't looking to upgrading my CPU. My T2300 more than meets my needs, but someone asked me to upgrade their Celeron notebook to a C2D. I picked up a T7200 on eBay for $130, but the person got cold feet and bailed on me. They offered me $50 to resell it, which I graciously accepted.

In meantime the CPU was delivered. Luckily, I happened to be home when the FedEx guy showed up. The box was damaged and they usually just leave it. I refused to accept it. You can never be too careful with computer parts. I contacted the seller, but they didn't have anymore T7200s. They offered me a T7400 at no charge. It seemed like a no brainer to me. Hopefully, I can get $50 for my old CPU on eBay, plus the $50 I got for re-selling. It makes the total cost about $30. That seems worth it to me.

    Nice upgrade.

I'm a little confused about the T7200 CPU. The $130 originally was paid by the person that wanted his laptop to upgrade to a C2D but didn't want it afterward, and you got to keep it?

I actually fronted the money for the purchase. After the person who wanted the upgrade decided they didn't want it anymore, they offered me $50 to re-sell it on eBay thereby covering any losses I might incur and a few bucks for my troubles.

Ah that's nice, $30 in the end is an awesome deal, the 4 MB L2 cache is a big step from the T2300.

Now it's time to undervolt the T7400. :D

I'm not a volter. I got the nine cell which goes four plus hours on full screen brightness. It's more than enough for me.

I'm actually looking to pick up a SSD if I can find the right combo of price to performance. Hopefully, that should hold me a few more years anyway.

Same here about the battery life, but I did it for the heat. :)
