i find myself torn between these two machines... T60 and Z61m

    T60
    - 1GB ram
    - 4:3 classic screen
    - ATI X1400
    - Slim... hmm
    - does it close firmly or what?
    - battery life?

    Z61m
    - 1GB ram
    - widescreen
    -ATI x1400
    -THICK like a tank
    -does it close well?
    - 3hrs on 6 cell or upgrade to 9cell batt?

i am having such a difficult time choosing which should i have as s gift from my sister (grad present for me hehe)... i love the standard aspect screen but it doesn't have the titanium lid...or i love the widescreen but it is not as thin...o yeah i love to have those steel hinges...

by the way, i do not mind the weight of these things... i am 5'7" and weigh 150lbs.. so adding maybe 10lbs would not be an issue...i do not want to have a laptop that feels like a feather, making me a paranoid when i do not feel the laptop with me. weight helps a lot...

can i have the WWAN option in the Z61m removed to reduce cost? i would not need it i guess as price for access is so high i will choose to upgrade my laptop with the money...

hehe just want some help.. maybe a little 'voice' in my ear that will help me decide which one i should get...

I am still trying to decide between these two, but am leaning towards th T60 because of the IPS flexview screen.

i was even thinking about that IPS flexview on the T60... can't even tell if that is a good thing or not. well i do not want everyone to see what i am doing (document-snooping,spying etc) in a well built good looking laptop on any angles...and i also do not want other persons complaining not seeing clearly the things im showing on my laptop on their angles....

i am having a 60/40 score on IPS/non IPS screens...

and i like matte screen... especially i always get my eyes tired working long hours on my laptop.

oh my why do i have these kind of problems?!?!?

This should be a simple choice. Performance-wise, the two systems will be very similar...so it all comes down to two things, IMO.

    In your buying decision...
    How important is a widescreen?
    How important is weight?

Z is the answer if wide is very important.
T is the answer if you want a lighter performance machine.

    It's your classic win-win scenerio.

What are you planning on using the computer for? Caution on widescreen: lots of games don't scale well, they end up stretching rather than rendering a wider viewport. However, doing things like programming, it is nice for things to be side by side, so widescreen is good, whereas wordprocessing is better on 4:3.
As for the T60, the 14" isn't svelte, it has a nice medium weight to it, Z61m is pretty hefty at 6.5 lb. Battery life too is something to look at. A larger screen requires more power, so the Z61m will not last as long as even the T60 15" (though not much different, bigger if compared to T60 14").
The T60 14" can be had w/ the X1400, just like the Z61m.
So why did I choose T60 over Z61m? Battery life, weight, and same performance...1400x1050 still gives me lots of room to work with, T60 seemed to have better lead time on shipment.

I am also very concerned about the speakers on the T60 vs z61m. I sometimes like to listen to music without headphones. The speakers on the dell 8600 of my brother seem to be loud enough. Does sound get muffeld on the t60 when it is in your lap??

    o my o my....

i was thinking of T60 as my first choice when it came out... i too like the standard aspect screens and find it enjoy to work with documents. however, i find it hard to view multiple documents side by side. i want to try that on a widescreen. i can live with multiple alt-tabs to go to and view other documents but that just pisses me off sometimes... also, i find the lack of ports on the T60 sort got me into mind-situation of "oh no!i need a firewire/card reader..."

when the Z61m came out...oh the ports came out...the widescreen came out..o what a weight this thing has, hehe...wow a cute little camera

i am gonna use my next laptop mainly as a word processor/spreadsheet..some presentations..chatting... gaming like NFS(or racing)... i just want the dedicated graphics card to have me assured of dealing with other softwares when time comes (CADs, matlabs, simulation).

o man! i hate it when it comes to tough choices like this... there's always a trade-off...

Zaz are the speakers on the z61m noticably louder than the ones on the T60??? According to the Tabook they are the same.
