Bought a Lenovo T61 three years ago thanks to all the helpful advice in this forum. Hubby has been noticing that every week or so he will lose 2 hours' time in the clock, so I'm thinking the CMOS battery needs replacement?

Does anyone know what sort of battery I need to get to replace this? Is this something I can only get from Lenovo? And lastly are there any other possibilities to consider for time loss other than CMOS battery going bad?

    Thanks much!

The FRU number is 02K6572 for the CMOS battery, or the "Backup Battery" as Lenovo calls it. They're relatively inexpensive and are easy to replace, it's just the matter of unplugging out the old and fitting in the new one.

Look out for the T61 Hardware Maintenance Manual for detailed instructions (with diagrams) on where to locate the CMOS and disassemble your unit. You only need to take out the palmrest and keyboard before you can access the CMOS battery.

^ What he said. It's pretty easy to take those parts out. When removing bezels and plastic pieces make sure to use plastic tools as not to damage. I use a plastic knife and filed the teeth down smooth. It's also great for popping those little hooks n the bezels. I just try to slide it in and under under the little hook location and pop it out, instead of trying to separate the bezel. Less chance of damaging plastic.
