    CDs for T43

    just received my new T43....however I don't see any CDs such as for Windows XP, IBM utilities....is this normal for IBM? I bought a Dell laptop long time ago and it came with loads of CDs including Windows and utilities...
    In case I wanna rebuild my system with all the utilities such as finger print reader sw...how do I do this?

    Yeah, one thing they don't tell you is that you have to request the restore CDs within 30-days of purchase otherwise you'll have to pay $35 to get them from IBM. Call tech support to request these CDs. Here's a similar thread with discussion on this

    They've changed the policy a few months ago. They don't send the CDs even if you ask within the first 30 days.

    You can burn one copy of the recovery discs yourself.
    Go to Access IBM and I think there is a create recovery discs link. You will need either 6 or 7 CDs. Unless you have a multi-burner, then you need 1 CD and 1 DVD.

    the link is really helpful...but it's hard to believe IBM won't provide CDs for the OS..

    None of the companies give you the OS discs. They either give you a set of recovery discs or put it on a hidden partition on the hard drive. Lenovo/IBM does the latter. I think a couple of other companies do the same.

    It's a licensing thing with Microsoft.
