I have a Lenovo T61p. Have had it for about 18 months. Today, I cannot get the CD to work at all. The computer does not even register that there is a CD in the tray. I don't think that it is spinning?

I have reboted, taken the CD tray out and put it back in - standard stuff. Is there anything else I could try or look at? Has anyone else run into this problem?

    Thanks

Give it a quick check to see if there is anything obvious thats wong. If not. ship it off to them.

There should be a status light on the side (green). If this isn't lit, remove the drive (it is hot swappable) and put it back in to see if it reappears.

Also, if you can, check it at the BIOS level with a bootable CD (e.g. a Windows or Linux install disc).

If you still can't get it to work, and you are under warranty, call Lenovo. They should overnight you a replacement drive that you can swap yourself in about 10 seconds. Then drop the defective drive in the box and send it back (this is far faster than sending in the whole computer). If you aren't under warranty I suggest eBay (this is probably cheaper than buying a drive direct from Lenovo).

X2. I've had my T61 for almost a year, and one day, the same problem happened, and the fix was the green bay light was off. Took me a GOOD 30 minutes to realize what the issue was, in fact, I was all ready to ship it off the Lenovo lol. Once you turn the CD/DVD bay light back on it will (or at least *should*) work again.
