As Dell promised, USA prices for the E4200 have been published today, and it's bad, worse than we ever imagined.

The basic E4200 model (which as I predicted yesterday uses the slow 1.2Ghz CPU), cost $2048 USD with only 1GB of RAM.

The "peformance model" with a 1.4Ghz CPU and 2GB of RAM, cost $2405 USD. Holy cow !

My next laptop is definitely the X200s...

The price of E4300 is crazy either, same as the price of x300 now.

My hope was that the E4200 release will push Lenovo to release the X200s this week.

Now with the E4200 price it seems Lenovo can safely wait with the X200s for a new-year release.

Very dissapointed with the US pricing of the E4200. It is cheaper to buy in Germany! That's crazy!

I suspect that the E4200 price will drop considerably in the coming weeks. It can't sell in any quantity at the current price. The X200 dropped 25% within one month of release, did it not?

I was also really hoping for the X200s to be up on Lenovo's website today. It can't be much longer now...

    Jack,
Even if the E4200 drops 25% in the following weeks (and I'm talking about the 1.4Ghz version that costs $2405), it's still too expensive.

They need to offer a version without SSD, otherwise it's out of reach for most of us and will stay that way for the next couple of months.

All my hopes now are on the X200s. It better not let down too...

I just configured an E4200 on Dell Canada's website and with all the upgrades i would like (ultra perf 64GB SSD, 5300 wireless, 1.4GHz, BT, DVDRW...) it comes to $2500 CDN.

One thing to keep in mind is that the E4200 includes a 3-year NBD on-site warranty. This is a $200 upgrade with Lenovo.

    Let's do a little math...

Suppose Dell drops the price by 25% in the next month. Possible? Also take off the $200 3-year warranty. Then we are talking about $1650. This is doable and I think a realistic price to expect. Unless Dell drops the price in the next month, which I suspect they will, only those with more money than sense will be sporting the E4200.

Only problem for me is I'm not going to wait another month (if it's up to me, that is). The moment the X200s is available for ~$1300 I'm grabbing it. It's September already I need the laptop badly.

It already is available at below that price using the CPP code which you can find by simply googling it.

    I wish :)

    I was talking about the X200 S.

Telling the truth though, if the X200s is going to disappoint, I'm probably going to go with the regular X200. Extra 250grams but still a nice deal.

What is dell doing? They are already taking a beating this fiscal year and now they dropped the ball on the e4200 pricing and options.
