I see a lot on ebay, not just thinkpads but apples as well.. they say "Sealed in box" or "Just opened box once" never used, etc...
I may be a little slow :-( - but why would someone buy one and then sell it sealed in the box or sell it after taking it out and looking it over.. Doesn't make sense....

They stole it, nah not really.
Likely they got a big discount on it, like an employee discount, and are selling it for profit. Or they ordered it, then got something else they like better but couldn't return it for some reason... -
Just make sure that you bid on an auction form a reputable seller ie. someone who has sold electronics, laptops etc. on ebay. Also make sure that the auction is covered by buyer protection I suggest only bid on the ones where you are guaranteed protection up to $2000. I had an experience where a guy listed 5 of the same phones I won one of them but he really didn't have them. I filed a complaint and got $175 back but still didn't get $75 (a year now) because I was covered under the buyer protection only up $200 and ebay / paypal charges $25 fee to recover your money. And supposedly the guy emptied his bank account. If something looks shady it probably is don't buy something of value from sellers with 0 or few feedbacks either. Trust me its worth spending an extra $100 - $200 for piece of mind. Also if you buy from Ebay especially on laptops it may be a problem for warranty as they may ask you for your purchase receipt when you need it repaired or support. If you buy a thinkpad you won't have to worry about that though. Like CVEC7said some people are computer dealers and they buy large volumes at huge discounts and put them on ebay. Good Luck and be careful "everyone is trying to make a buck, some at the expense of others"

There are lots of reasons. Paying with a credit card is usually a safer play on eBay. It will offer you more recourse should a problem arise. With ThinkPads you can ask for the serial number and look it up on Lenovo's site. If they are legit, it shouldn't be a problem.
Buying on eBay? Question...
