Is there a compelling reason to only buy ThinkPads direct from Lenovo? Assuming it is a reputable reseller, are there any downsides from buying elsewhere?

Because you can configure it the way you want, which you can't do with a pre-configured machine. There's nothing wrong buying from a reseller, just make sure they're an authorized reseller.

The reason I asked, of course, is someone mentioned BestBuyForBusiness.com and I checked them out. Some of their prices are hundreds below what I can spec the same machine on Lenovo's site. Plus, they come with 3-year warranties. The tabook should tell me everything about each machine, and that kind of savings is enough for me to forego, say, the Intel 5300 wireless option and settle for the 5100. Plus, these things should ship much faster.

There aren't any other catches I should know about?

My guess you can get it cheaper on the Internet than BestBuy. Google the machine type. You're factoring in the 25% coupon offered right now?

Yes, I am. As a matter of fact, it looks like it beats the current EPP deal with coupon as well.
