    Hi everyone,

I wanted to pick up a y510p from Lenovo Canada but they're sold out. I was wondering if it was possible to buy from the Lenovo US website if I had it shipped to a friend in the States. Does anyone have any experience doing something like this? Could I pay with my Visa card even though it's Canadian? How would the currency conversions work?

    Thanks in advance!

It won't work. Lenovo will see the foreign based credit card as fraud. I believe you can use an American Express card if you have your friends address on file with American Express.

Lenovo is quite strict when it comes to payment/shipping. Like ZaZ pointed out, a foreign card for a US address will not fly. Also AFAIK they will not ship to an address that isn't tied to the card.

Have your friend in the U.S. pay by his/hers card, and then send them the funds. That's the only way out of the predicament that you're in.

    Good luck.

They will, but you'll have to talk to their customer service.

I live in Europe. I've bought two Thinkpads in the last year that I had sent to family in the US. My credit card address of record is a mailing service that I use in the US. I had the Thinkpads sent to a street address in another state.

I got the purchases set up on the US website and then called service and told them what I wanted to do. The first time, they wanted me to have my credit card company add a second, temporary address as though I were going away on business or a trip, and they did. That's the address that I used the first time for delivery, all the while service being aware of the billing address for my CC remaining the same, the mailing service elsewhere.

The second time, I called again and told them what I wanted to do and, I guess because I had done it before, the service rep signed off on it and the transaction went through.

So, you can jimmy the process if you want, but you have to get in touch with them ahead of time. Give it a try.
