    Hi..

A question for you all. I found a really good deal online. Someone is selling a NIB notebook which has aprrox 7 months of warranty left.

It is new and have not been used. What is the reliability of Lenovo with only 7 months of warranty? After that? What is the proper channel for getting my notebook serviced?

Anyone see any con's of buying a notebook from someone online?

    thx

If it's on eBay, I think you can get extra warranty through a 3rd-party warranty provider. Maybe you can do the same with any kind of online purchase too, but you have to check.

Also, if you do get one through a 3rd-party, make sure you check their reputation first by googling for possible problems.

Cool..And if I buy from an individual? I guess no warranty other then Lenovo. Any pit falls from buying from an individual?

    yes
    it could be a refurb
it could be not as listed
it makes no sense that someone bought a notebook for resale with a 1 year warranty 5 months ago and hasnt either:
    opened it
or already sold it (my guess is its a customer return)
If it smells like fish it probably is fish

Yea I agree with watchtower7. You're better off buying from a company, but if he has good user rating (like on eBay or amazon.com), then I think it's worth it. Not everybody's a crook.

As far as getting it serviced, maybe someone else knows this, but I think the warranty is transferable. You might even be able to purchase an extended warranty from lenovo? Maybe mod knows better...

I bought both my Thinkpads on eBay and have been perfectly happy with them. I got a 3-year warranty through SquareTrade.com on the new one and from what I've learned online about them they seem to be on the level. You do need to be sure you're dealing with a reputable seller and be sure to use a credit card, that way you're pretty much guaranteed to get your money back in case of problems. But if everything checks out I would have no hesitation recommending an online seller based on my own experiences.

I see absolutely no reason to buy from a third party and all the risks associated when there are so many spectacular deal either in the outlet or with all the coupons
