I found a T42 for sale on a BST forum that seems to be at a pretty good price (not going to say where, so no one snaps it up before me :D ). Anything I need to be aware of? Especially with respect to warranty?

    Possible questions:
    1) Is there a way I can verify that the laptop is legitimate (ie. not stolen, etc.. I have no reason to believe it is, but I'd rather be safe than sorry.. especially with such a large purchase!)
    2) Is there a way I can verify how long the warranty remaining is?
    3) What do I need to do (if anything) to transfer the warranty?

If it was reported stolen, the warranty will have been invalidated, and going there will tell you that.

The warranty is attached to the serial number on the laptop, not the owner, AFAICT.

Cool. Thanks. One more question, what does "entitled to IBM EZServe service" mean?

IBM EZServe == Depot service (read: send it in for service)

Wow, old but useful thread. One more question, what's the number to call (or better yet, an URL) to update the ownership info? Has anyone gone through this process yet?

ThinkPad warranties are different than other notebooks. The warranty follows the machine not the owner. Just look it up on Lenovo's site. You will need the machine type and serial number.
