After going ThinkPad once, I can't go back. But it is time to upgrade, because my current R61 turned out to be an Nvidia-lemon.

So I was thinking of T510 or T520 (or maybe T4x0, but the screen might be small) with high-res matt screen, i5 and 4-8gb ram.
Is 400-600 USD sufficient for something like this?

Does anyone know of some sales going on, or good xmas/new year deals going on at the moment? I only have a limited window of opportunity.

Laptop does not have to be brand-new. I can do with refurbished.

I've found ebay to be the best, or outlet.lenovo.com if they are having a sale and it looks like they are right now. 4-600 is a little light depending the screen you want, but $600 is awfully close.

I might suggest posting in the marketplace forum over on ThinkPads.com that you're looking for a used ThinkPad in good shape. It's a very good place to buy a used ThinkPad as they tend to be more honest about what they're selling that eBay or CL.

Thanks for the suggestions. I posted on ThinkPads.com and also found outlet.lenovo.com quite interesting.

outlet.lenovo.com - I noticed most laptops are 'only 1 left'. Do they update their stock regularly (like daily or hourly) with new deals or do they do it once every some time and then leave it without new additions?

Forgive me if it's a stupid question, but I rarely frequent forums: is there some place with promotional codes I could use to further lower the price at, say, outlet.lenovo.com ?

The problems with Lenovo's Outlet in your set of circumstances are that:

    a) They do NOT ship abroad

    b) Even if someone in the U.S. were to buy a machine for you, and send it to U.K. the warranty would be non-existant. Units bought in the Outlet are not IWS eligible.

    Good luck.
