I am thinking of buying a used T420s from someone for a very good price.
What should I worry about if I were to buy a used Lenovo laptop from Craigslist or eBay? Would I be able to use the warranty?

Whoa, what? Used T420s? The model's been out for like, 5 months at most. The main worry would definitely be the laptop itself, if there is anything wrong or if it's been dropped or something.

The guy said everything is perfect and he was given a similar laptop at work so he's selling it. It's a month old but doesn't come with the box, just the laptop and power cord. I assume the 1 year warranty is still active. I will be checking it out before I buy it(local purchase) so i should be able to check for problems.

Now, if something were to go wrong in a couple months, would I be able to send it to Lenovo and have it fixed?

I don't have any experience with, quite frankly, any warranty service from any company, but from what I've heard, it should be fine.

I just spoke with a Lenovo rep and they said they just need the machine type(model) and the serial number, so that's good to hear.

    +rep to you guys.

I would get the serial number first and verify with Lenovo that the warranty is still active/valid. If the laptop has been reported stolen, the warranty is pretty much void, if I am not mistaken.

    +1

And you can also check the original build spec of the system online and then compare with what the seller is claiming. Adds more due diligence.

call me cynical, but i would consider if it is legitimate. My girlfriend had her laptop stolen and I don't think for the thief's personal use.

The warranty stay with the laptop, since this is a new unit I was say you have at least a few month of the existing warranty left.

There are two thing you need to worry about if you are buying an used laptop from a doggy source. One thing to look out for is seeing if the laptop is stolen. Second thing is damage that is not apparent that might void the warranty.

Check with him if he could provide a copy of the receipt.

I bought it already and I am typing on it at the moment. It looks brand new. The 6 cell battery has TWO cycles on it and the ultrabay battery has 20 cycles.

The warranty is also valid until June 2012. I got it for a steal @ $750 (specs in sig). Thanks for all your help guys.

that is fairly cheap. $750 with warranty is almost a steal for a T420s, nice purchase.
