I'm about to purchase a Thinkpad R51 online and I would like to purchase 256 MB RAM at the same time so I can upgrade it right away when I get it.

Any websites for lower-priced RAM for IBMs? I have checked Kingston's website and the RAM I need (256MB 333MHz DDRAM, if I remember correctly) costs about $60USD.

    Instead of the R51, I've purchased a T42.

It uses the same kind of RAM: PC2700 333MHz 200-PIN SODIMM

However, I am wondering if brands matter at all?

I have heard that for Dell laptops, only certain brands can fit even if they have the correct specs.

    I am looking at this:

    HYNIX SODIMM 200PIN PC2700 512MB
    HX-PC2700512SOD

Which is a lot cheaper than the other options I have.

    Thanks!
