Hey all. I am currently looking at laptops for my work to complement my Macbook (For media). I have been using Boot Camp, but I would rather have a dedicated Windows computer. I am a Web Designer who needs enough power for running Dreamweaver and Fireworks.

I have been looking at IBM/Lenovo Refurbs and since I know someone who works at IBM, I get access to their EPP program. I have decided based on my Budget that I would get either a Thinkpad T41 (Pentium M, 1.6, $441) or a Thinkpad T42 (Pentium M, 1.7, $471).

I was wondering if anyone had any experience with any of these models. Are there any known problems with either of these?

My other question is about Solectron. How is Lenovo's repair service? I have come across some horror stories which left me scared to ask Lenovo/Solectron for repair if i would need it. Anyone with experience?

    Thanks for the help.

I am under the impression that Lenovo repair and customer service in North America is still handled by IBM. But, if this is not the case, I'm sure I'll get flamed quickly enough.

Yepp, Solectron handles most of the repairs for Lenovo.

There are horror stories for everything but I've personally seen only a handful of legitimate complainsts about service. For any refurb I'd get whatever warranty you can.

T4x series will run FW and DW just fine. I have CS3 versions of both on my T43, together with Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, Flash and that PoS called Bridge. No problems. Just get 2GB of ram (the max on the T4x series)

    Nice.

What type of RAM does the Thinkpad use. I think if it uses the same ram as my Macbook, then I can throw in the 512 chip from my Mac so that my Pad and Mac will have a gig of ram each.
