    Hi,

I'm getting new ram for my T400. I've narrowed it down to the following sticks. Can the T400 take advantage of the DDR3 1333? If not, would you still recommend the OCZ because it's cheaper? Any better deals out there?

I'm assuming the speed difference in negligible in real world applications. Still, I'm willing to pay a bit of a premium for the peace of mind of some slightly higher benchmark scores. Let me know what you think. Thanks.

No laptop can use DDR3-1333 right now. Go with the cheapest memory from a reputable company w/ lifetime warranty since 1333 will be downclocked to 1066.

    Hi,
your laptop only supports upto ddr3 1066, buying any faster ram will not give you better performance, as the ram will downclock to 1066.

If you want the fastest RAM look for 1066 sticks with the lowest timings. The mushkin should be fine.

Not to my knowledge. High speed RAM is generally only useful if you overclock your CPU and/or the FSB (not recommended).

Just get 4GB DDR3 1066MHz. Anything else will be a waste.

I recently got a 2GB Crucial module for <$30 and it works very well.

    Thanks for the replies.

It's actually cheaper to buy two sticks of the 2gb OCZ DDR1333, but the timings are faster on the mushkin. Does anyone know of a laptop memory round-up online? I haven't been able to find any reviews comparing the performance of ddr3 laptop memory.

The OCZ timings should actually improve when it downclocks to 1066MHz.

However, I personally would go with either the Crucial or Mushkin 4GB kit as I hate depending on Mail in rebates to give me a decent value.
