Hi there, I'm here to share my not so awesome story about Lenovo and their abysmal service. Like many of you in this forum, you're probably looking into either the newest haswell model of the y410p/y510p. In my honest opinion, I will tell you right away that as of right now, you shouldn't buy the product. Let me give a rundown of my experiences so far.
Week 1:My order was placed on June 18th. I was given an estimated ship and delivery date of the following week (week 2). However, due to its popularity, I knew that there would be no way that I would get it that fast. Indeed I was correct about that, so I just said to myself, "it's just one more week, nothing I can't handle". I was pretty confident in honouring their next ship and delivery date because I was told by several associates that it should pretty much guaranteed be shipped out and received next week.
Week 2: My order is delayed yet another week, not a big deal until what happens in week 3.
Week 3: Here's where I get a little frustrated. on the day of the ship date, I check my status to see it is stuck on order received(still is to this day, mind you I ordered on the 18th), and that both the estimated ship and delivery date have been moved back an entire two weeks. TWO. So needless to say, I was very angry that not only were they not able to honour their 7 business days(part of the reason I decided to order it) but also that fact that I was lied to and I am now waiting a month+ to receive an item.
More on week 3: I have been contacting associates daily to see if anyone has an ounce of an idea what's going on with my purchase. Every single time it is a part constraint, but what I don't understand is how that two weeks is delaying this process, ridiculous. And to add insult to injury, one of the only nice associates I was talking to, gave me the harsh news that realistically, my product will not ship until the 22nd. This is 34 days after I have placed my order, this is unacceptable.
Plans for week 4: If the product has not shipped on the 16th, let alone even be made, I am cancelling my order indefinitely and taking my business else where. All of Lenovo's schemes are based on false advertising and enticing you to buy a product with their great deals, but in reality you're paying much more due to their crappy CS and ability to not honour their times.
To conclude, sorry for the rant, but something must be said, and I'm sure SEVERAL others are facing the exact same thing. Not only that, but some other person in this forum ordered the EXACT same model as mine, but received his product in only 18 days,(we are both Canadian by the way). Now I have no idea what's going on down there, but regardless, this is definitely the last time I ever buy a Lenovo product. Sure they offer free shipping and Handling, but you pay with it by false advertising their dates in which you will receive it. Once I put in my cancellation(which I will probably do) I am ordering from a more reliable source like xoticpc or just anywhere on NewEgg. I'm tired of the lies I'm fed from Lenovo and will surely bring my business elsewhere where they take at least some care into their customers and offer be better service, quality, hell probably everything Lenovo doesn't. I wouldn't even mind forking up an extra couple hundred to get it faster than Lenovo's measly service.
tl;dr If you are thinking about purchasing the Lenovo y510p and receive it within the next month, you will be hard pressed that that is not the case and will be sorely dissapointed to be ordering from Lenovo. Thanks for your time!
Do not purchase from Lenovo unless you mind being lied to and waiting four times as long as you were promised, that is all!

Okay, so their shipping situation isn't ideal, mine was pushed back a few weeks too, but that is hardly a surprise before you place the order as every Lenovo forum has some thread or another about it.
Have some patience, it may suck now but once you get your hands on it you'll realize it's a solid product for the price. -
Hey untamed, indeed it does suck, and I know the laptop is probably a contender for best bang for its buck, but what irritates me is the constant lying of when I'll get it, that's what makes me not want to continue with the purchase(Lenovo in general).
Also, can I assume that you must already have the laptop? -
Just buy from newegg or frys or some other retailer that carriers the product in stock. I received mine in 2 days.
Cheers, -
I bought mine from Lenovo, ordered on Monday, received it the same Friday. Pretty good shipping for me!

Lenovo wouldn't get my business back if it was the last active computing company in the world. I'd rather buy a ball and a cup.

I have the Y500 650m SLI.

I didn't post anything inflammatory, extraneous, or off-topic, nor did I intentionally provoke an argument. I stated my stance on Lenovo and your response is actually the 'trolling' since it provoked this comment.
Anyways, Lenovo('s representatives) love to give the work-around. They will lie to you, so you need to go straight to corporate offices. I wish I went straight to corporate offices quicker than I did because once I contacted them, my problem was resolved much sooner. Remember to file a complaint with the BBB and FTC. -
You state you're done with Lenovo and their products, if that is the case be done with the forums that relate to their products too. We already have enough people complaining without you. -
Got mine after 18 days of waiting.
Patience is a blessing. -

Jobine, you keep saying patience, patience, patience, but you got yours within 18 days, I have already been waiting 25 days and the laptop has not eve been made. So I would hope you understand my frustration because I've already waited 3 times as long as I was promised, they shouldn't give me such dates if they have no intent to honour them.

You never actually got the laptop (yet), so you shouldn't protest that no one should buy Y510/410p.
There are some periods where you will get your orders delayed due to massive orders. One of such periods is back-to-school sales which is about now.
When I ordered my Y500 back in May, mine was shipped after 5 business days. When I ordered Y510p in early June, it was to be shipped 2 days after placing the order. If you avoid big sale periods, you can avoid long delays.
Now, I've had my share of issues with Lenovo which I detailed in a thread: http://forum.notebookreview.com/ideapad-essential/721772-my-my-nightmare-began.html -
Fair enough, but what I meant was to avoid being disappointed, do not buy right now as you will be sad to see the time it takes to receive our products, not the actual laptop itself. And I ordered on the 18th, so by no means was I late to purchasing it, I believe it came out very early June if I am correct.
-
Yes, Y510/410p series came out in early June. I ordered pretty much as soon as it came out which was why it was due to be shipped after only 2 days. Meaning they had the initial stock. At least, that was the impression I got.
After mid June or so, Lenovo started to omit/change their offering and removed SLI option from default setting. It's where I got the impression that their stock level was getting low. By time you placed your order, they probably didn't have any stock left and each sale was probably handled as case by case.
Unfortunately, as your order was being delayed, it entered back-to-school sale period where a company like Lenovo has to meet a certain quota for deliveries. Lenovo deals with a lot of education facilities and their orders are probably on higher priority than individual orders.
To sum it up, I will say the fault is due to the unfortunate timing. I experienced a similar trend with Dell as well when it comes to back-to-school sale period. So, I always avoid big sale periods, like back-to-school and X-mas/new year sale period. -
Bought mine at Micro Center. In and out in 20 minutes. If you're in a hurry and can buy it locally that's your best bet. Plus I paid $100 under MSRP
-
I am thinking of getting a Y510p in replacement of my MSI GE40 20C but I'm wondering whether the fan is as loud. If it is not loud, I might just get one unit when it is available next month or so. -
I do live in Canada, but in Prince Edward Island, which is actually quite far away from the distribution center in Toronto, and because there are only 2-3 ways to actually get in the province, it took me a little under 3 weeks for my laptop to be shipped to my doorstep.
Buyer beware of the Lenovo y510p
