I saw the deal on the front page about Buy.com's T61, but I'm a bit confused. This is the one on their website listed on the front page:
http://www.buy.com/prod/lenovo-lapt...0g-1gb120gb-dvd-15-4/q/loc/101/204681854.html
But the Tabook says that for that Machine-type/Model that the OS is Vista Business. It doesn't matter much for me because I plan to wipe whatever I get and load on Ultimate, I just wonder how much I can trust Buy.com. I'm also trying to decide on that one or this one:
http://www.buy.com/prod/lenovo-lapt...-1gb-80gb-combo-14-1/q/loc/101/204687993.html
But the problem I'm having with that one is that Buy.com says that is a WXGA whereas the Tabook says it is an XGA. Who to believe? I really don't want an XGA, but I do like all of the other features on it, especially the fact that it is lighter than the 15.4".

For the X61s review unit I have the tabook says it has Vista Business 64 bit which it does not and the 160GB 5400RPM hard drive while it actually had the 100GB Hitachi 7k100.
-
Oh, very interesting...So it's basically a crapshoot then when ordering? Anyway, I found another one for just a bit more with the 14.1" WXGA and other specs I like where the Buy.com description and Tabook actually match. I'm going to pull the trigger on that one tomorrow and post back with the results.
Thanks! -

Wow, thanks for the link. Is there somewhere else I can order a T61 without paying more than $1200 (and not Lenovo)?
-
Well, I did it. After looking at the reviews, it appeared most of the complaints were for specials like memory cards and stuff. I ordered this one:
7658-15U
Core 2 Duo T7100 1.80 Ghz
1GB RAM
14.1" WXGA GMA Graphics
80GB 5400 RPM Hard Drive
DVD±RW
Intel 11a/b/g
No WWAN or Turbo Memory
Fingerprint reader
Vista Business32
For $1238.60 shipped next day.
Wish me luck! -

But I'd get this one, if you can handle xga. Hugest knock off of msrp ($1699) @ $1145 shipped, no taxes: 2.0 GHz and three year warranty.
I can vouch, bought a thinkpad from them a couple of years ago. My only complaint is they switch prices on you almost DAILY. They have changed prices when I was on the phone with them once trying to order something. Jumped 70 bucks. In the past week, I watched a t60 go from $1300 and change to $1100 something, back up to $1400. I think they have so many, they keep fluctuating prices until they hit a sweet spot of sales x profit, then you see the number remaining dwindle.
So you see one you like, buy it, or it might be hundreds more (or less!) the next day.
Good luck. -
Oh crap sorry, I was researching those for you when you posted that, or I wouldn't have.
Congrats! -
Thanks for the research, I may end up using them if Buy doesn't deliver.
-
lol why wouldnt they deliver? It'll come. And costcentral is not nextday shipping at those prices, anyways if you need it NOW now.
Your deal is good. buy.com is respected. just look though, they also have one for 1280 that was msrp 1899, pretty nice. i'd just make sure i got three year warranty at that price. -
Well, I'm a bit concerned with the recent reviews about them not delivering things. I'm just hoping it's limited to those specials they were running.
Oh and the one I ordered has a 1 year warranty.
But you're right, the deal seems good. It's just a bit over what my EPP discount would get me. -
Every retailer has horror stories, if they sell enough. Is buy.com a lenovo "business partner"?
You should be able to do better than what you bought there though using EPP. For that price you should be getting those specs w/three year. GOing retailer just to get it "now"? -
Yes, I need a notebook sooner than the 3-4+ weeks that Lenovo is "promising".
-
-
Woohoo! It shipped. I'll be getting it tomorrow. Maybe I can write up a review? Is that something that needs to be done on the factory configuration?
-
I'd order from them in a second if they had a 7200rpm drive with XP Pro
