I've been lurking for a T60 for some time now but I'm delaying for 2 reasons and need some advice on it.

    1) 801.11n mini-pci are available online when purchasing an x-series, but not T. Would I be able to order then then call Lenovo up to have them switch it to the newer card?

    2) Since Microsoft has announced that Vista will be released to businesses prior to the new year, does that mean that there is a chance that the integrated OEM OS on the Thinkpads will be switched over to Vista prior to the end on this amazing winter sale period?

I'm very tempted the pull the trigger on this; any advice would be most appreciated.

    1. Yes, many people have reported calling in to have the rep change to the "N" card. Some people have reported getting reps who didn't think the "N" card was available so just call back until you get one that does.

    2. Doubtful that they'll switch to Vista Business before the holiday sale ends IMO.

    1) Yes. May cost you $30 depending on the rep.

    2) I doubt this, perhaps by year-end, but probably not holiday sale end. Call and see if they can offer a Vista upgrade with your model.

Did not even realize getting the wireless N card was an option. I guess I will be calling for two changes tomorrow, not just one (5200 rpm to 7200 rpm is the other).

I was looking through a flyer and noticed a wireless 'n' router is about $100 vs a 'g' at $50. But the speed will be there, if required.

My internet is the 'light' flavor of cable internet, it is not particularily fast but gets the job done. Would it be a lost cause for me to get a wireless 'n' card, and a wireless 'n' router (anything else needed for the home?) if the internet connection is going to be the bottleneck?

The internet connection probably does not even approach the speed of 802.11g. Unless you're transferring files between computers in the house you shouldn't waste you money on n right now.

Unlikely, however, if you purchase a notebook before March (2007), you'll be eligible for the Vista Express upgrade. Which means you can get Vista Business whenever you want at no charge.

Agreed, but "N" is supposed to improve range I believe. So while your speed can't get better than what you'd achieve with a wired connection, your range may improve if that's an issue.

That's interesting. Plus, wireless hotspots may eventually be going 'n', although I doubt this will happen for sometime still.

    How is security on n?
