would you guys recommend buying the x220 now (10% student + 5% coupon) or waiting till lenovo's Memorial Day sale? how good has this sale been in the past, with regards to launch prices?

answering your question would require the ability to see into the future. and if someone had that ability, they'd be making a killing in the stock market right now (or kicking back with a cold one on a beach somewhere after having made a fortune) instead of hanging out in a laptop forum.

    does that help? :D

Yes, well sometimes one can predict the potential or probability of future events based on past events. Which I believe is what the OP was looking for.

I also think that is how people make money on the stock market.

and you know that brokers always tell their clients, "Past performance is not an indicator of future performance". :p

From the looks of their current delay times, certain components are out of stock. If you order in a month you might be getting around the same ship times :p

it's anyone's guess what active discounts/coupons will be out there at any given time, whether it Memorial Day or otherwise.

    guess is the operative word.

my opinion is if you can get 15% off now, that ain't bad. if you don't need an x220 now, you can always wait. if you're expecting to get 25% off in a month, i think it's not likely but hey, that's just my guess.

    I would say now.
The prices are pretty low as is(at least i think so). I could see these go up in price rather than dropping.

The reasons I bought now even though I could have waited a few months is:

    1. The 15%-20% off seems like it could end up being an introductory discount if these things sell like crazy. I didn't want to have to settle for 5% off.

    2. In regards to selling like crazy, I was worried about a shortage of the IPS panel if demand exceeds Lenovo's expectation.

    Just my $.02

The highest discount available now is 14.5% as 10% Visa Cardholder + 5% USPTHINK48HR code.

    Visa Cardholders go here.

USPTHINK48HR is only a 5% discount on X220's. You have to get your order in with a rep using their internal coupon to get 10% off Student/Visa.

To answer the OP's quesiton, it's foolish to wait for better deals. Prices will only go up from here (you're not ever going to do better than 20% off that's available now) and you run the real risk of missing out on IPS considering history.

The answer to this thread is the same answer to 95% of the "Shall I buy now or later" threads.

If you need it now, buy it now.

If you want it now and can afford it, use the coupon codes you have available to you and buy it now.

If you don't need it right now, are a patient person, or don't have the money yet, wait and see --but also don't be upset if demand increases and it takes longer to get the model you want due to supply constraints, or if you cannot get as good a price as the current discounts.

Well ebola, I've been talking with representatives from Lenovo all day about the x220T, and honestly, depending on what you're looking for, you're better off waiting until May. In May the options should (please note I said should, you never know if what the reps say is guaranteed) be available for gorilla glass and the extended battery they keep touting in the reviews. Right now we're getting bare minimum options. Yesterday I could only pick a core i3. Today I can select between the i3, the i5, and the i7. Yesterday no camera option existed. Today the camera option is available to me.

It seems to me like Lenovo doesn't actually have their act together yet on this product. I think it has awesome potential and am researching it pretty thoroughly now since I'm considering buying it. But as far as I can tell, if you want some of those options you can't see now that they're talking about in the dozens of reviews so far, you're better off waiting. Plus it gives the product time for the early adopters to test some, and you get the opinions of the masses, not just the tech websites.

So my response to your question? Buy it now if it has all the options that you are dying for in the tablet pc available. Wait another month or so until the next good sale if you're wanting the awesome features that made it so appealing to me.
