    Hello,

I am planning to buy another T61.

I am going to buy Vista Business and choose Lenovo's free:

Genuine Windows XP Professional Downgrade DVD

My customer does NOT allow me to use Vista and I am going to install XP using the Downgrade DVD (I hope to reinstall the system anyway to remove possible bloatware). In the future, when my customer moves to Vista, I can reinstall the Vista coming with the machine (I know that I need to make Recovery and rescue disks to keep Vista before installing XP).

Does this sound a good strategy to cover now and future needs? Will it work?

Is "Genuine Windows XP Professional Downgrade DVD" the normal XP install DVD?

Thank you so much for your input!

    Cheeers!

Why does your customer not allow you to use Vista?

I work for a U.S. government. It is hard to say whether it is right or not. Further I have tools whose versions dont run on Vista.

I simply wanted to know whether buying Vista plus choosing Genuine Windows XP Professional Downgrade DVD can make me cover both now and future.

    Thanks!

This should work fine. As long as you created AND tested the Vista recovery discs, then you should be fine. Having both the XP and Vista recovery discs will allow you to switch to whichever one you want.

Simply dual boot them if you wish. On a side note, a government sector using Windows is just... just... dangerous.

They are the recovery XP disc(s)...not a standard XP install CD

I will create Vista rescue and recovery disks, right? Why do I need another XP recovery DVD dsk? What do you mean? You mean I will not have a usual XP system after install with this DVD? Could you please elaborate it?

    Thanks!

If I choose Intel Turbo Memory 1GB when I buy the new T61 with Vista, any problem if I downgrade the system to XP?

Probably the Intel Turbo Memory 1GB is useless with XP.

    Can anybody confirm?

Edit: I will start another thread for this question.
