Hi, I'm basically looking for a word processing, light programming, dvding notebook (dun care about wide screen NOR good graphics card).

as you know, lenovo has their anni sale right now, i can could get this t60 (after rebate) from buy.com:
    http://www.buy.com/prod/Lenovo_Thinkpad_T60_Notebook/q/loc/101/202314460.html

    basically:

    core duo 1.66
    512 ram
    60gig
    dvd/cd-rw
    1 year warranty

my question is...should i buy it now or wait for 1.5 month? i can ONLY wait for 1.5 month...but is it worth waiting and letting go of this deal? I have nothing specific to wait for...but will things be cheaper in 1.5months without the lenovo anni sale?

    Thanks.

What you'll probably find is that in a couple of months the base price won't change much. The specs will be updated (maybe a CPU speed bump or more memory) but the price will remain fairly stable. That is a heck of a computer for a really good price. I say if you need a computer go for it. You're looking at a really nice machine for what you need. Good luck.

well...i would definitely buy it now if i needed it now...except my need won't come in another 1.5-2 months, that's why i was wondering lol...perhaps that in the next 1.5-2 months i could get a "better deal"

I think that's a very nice deal! I don't think price will change that much.

Beside, didn't you prefer Dell? I read in another thread that you said Dell was a bigger bang for your buck than Lenovo. What made you change your mind?

That looks like a good deal to me. It's really hard to say what is going to happen in the next 2 months, since this is lenovo now, and they seem to be a little more interested in sales and cutting costs than IBM.

However, this isn't dell we're talking about - they're not going to run a $750 off $1500 coupon anytime soon. I would be surprised if there was a better sale in the next 2 months, and I think the risk of passing by a good deal is probably greater than any marginally better deal you might get in the near future. If you spend the extra $100 to buy it from lenovo, don't you get a 30-day no questions return policy, too? [disclaimer: i take no responsibility if lenovo runs a $1000 off sale next week ]

That is all if you are set on a t60, though. I agree that dells will give you better specs for the buck. I don't think most people buy thinkpads because of the specs, though.

cost of not using the laptop+value of laptop>price

    then buy.

The machine is solid. The price is good, but not stellar, you are getting a lower res. model, and for programming it seems you might want more real estate.

amur, by more "real estate" do you mean more cpu power or ram? because i plan to upgrade to 2 gigs after purchase...but if you meant cpu power...nothing i can do. is 1.66 really that much different than 1.8 core duo?

hehe, i'm a die hard ibm fan...even though i still think dell has better value =)

He means the resolution for your model is 1024x768 which is low compared to 1400x1050.

I just cancelled my T60 purchase through Lenovo and bought the exact same think at buy.com, saved over a hundred and I get it within 5 days vs. 3 weeks (via Lenovo).

i would wait (even though i didnt :) ). unless im mistaken, intel duo prices are supposed to drop in the next few months since the duo 2.13 (is this right?) is coming out. So prices will probably drop around 50 bucks tops i think. I just know that the duo prices are going to be lower so i would think that the computers would be slightly cheaper too. i got that exact computer a few weeks ago and its great btw

The prices are actually dropping rather drastically. The T2500 will drop around $210, the T2400 around $130, and the T2300 around $55. It varies by model, therefore.
