I have bought on laptop online and one pc online. I recently have some problem on the x31 purchase. Their pre and post sales service is one out of 100. No review of order and two missed scheduled delivery date. They stood me up while I was waiting for one whole for the delivery. No email, no phone call, not a single notice.

Then I received the package after my complaint. I power up the BRAND NEW thinkpad, one bright dot appear during the Dos boot up mode. So I saw a great big annoying dead pixel. So I called and they told me no support on thinkpad when there is less then 8 dead pixels. Mine is 5 minutes old I said.

    My battling is now on...

I own three laptops(Fujitsu 2.5 years, IBM 4 years, DEll 4 years). I will buy laptop online only if there is good return policy and great personal service.

I rank Dell the first on their good and approachable sales support and Fujitsu second on their excellent QA and support.

Never buy ibm online because this is not my first time having QA problem on new machine with IBM. Even you buy new laptop with retail shop, do a thorough check on every single thing. I might not be a lucky online buyer but 2 out of 2 time of defect thinkpad on me is just not too coincidence. Their QA has certainly drop. I myself, a software developer valued thinkpad capability but please shake up your QA and sales support on the dream machine you claims what it should be.

Dell support gets knocked sometimes, but it is certainly better than some. Very good suggestion to always look into return policies and warranty before buying online from any retailer, not just direct.

    thanks for the post.
