I just received my new T500 on Friday. I noticed that there is a burning plastic like smell emitting from the keyboard. It's very nauseating. Is this normal?

It could be a lot of things. Usually an electronics like burning smell is the power supply. A burning plastic smell coming from the keyboard, hmm. Are you monitoring your temps? Are the fans on, and if they are, do they come on high?
Check those and come back and report them.
From what little I can tell, without actually standing next to your notebook to get a better diagnosis, it could be you have some inadequate cooling and it could be heating your keyboard a good amount, or something else.
What do you use your computer for? I need more information.

It's not normal. You could try to figure out what it is and fix it, but you only got it Friday. If there is one thing wrong, there could be more. My honest opinion, send it back to them.

I would suggest that also, but I was kind of curious as to what is causing it. :D

You know what curiosity did? Apart from killing the cat, it can sometimes invalidate the warranty :)

Between my new T400 and my new laptop case, the off-gas of the new plastics was pretty dreadful. The fan on the laptop has been pulling some warm plastic/electronic smells for some time, but it definitely hasn't been overheating. Just my experience.
