Hoping someone can help me out here.

I have a T61P running windows vista ultimate, and I need a burning program badly. I tried to install Nero 7 but it gave me errors and a lot of headaches (still trying to remove parts of it), then I tried nero 6 but still nothing. So my question is...does anybody know of any decent free burning software that can burn DVD-Video files specifically. I tried installing some free burning software but none can burn DVD-video files...if anybody know of any gems out there...please let me know.

Thank you very much in advance.

ps. My T61p is great, very happy with the purchase to all of you who are considering it.

I use Nero exclusively. Never had an issue. Note I only install the Smart Start and Burning ROM from the package. You may have other issues causing the problems with Nero. You may want to try Deep Burner. I have heard good thing about it.

I used to use Nero, but over the past years it has become a bloated whore and I'm not going to support that company. I use InfraRecorder now. Nice and lite and legally free.

I remember the days when Nero was slim and trim. That is the reason I left Roxio. I will try out the InfraRecorder for a while too see if I can get rid of my bloated Nero.

Give Deep Burner a shot. Not bad for free, and lighter than Nero.

I checked and InfraRecorder seems to be under continuous development, but I saw no direct mention of beta. My impression is that this is a RC at a minimum. The current version is 0.45, and my brief tests have all been positive. I have not removed Nero, YET. But the possibility looms depending on my experiences with InfraRecorder over the next week or so.

I switched over to Ashampoo. It is small and easy to use though I do miss the file browser from Nero. You can probably get a cheap OEM copy on eBay. 7 does DVD Video.

I just wonder why everyone seek other burner programs instead of the one(roxio multimedia center) brought to by Thinkpad(T61....etc).

Roxio should be the very famous burner program in Mac system, isn't it?

I use PowerISO, but only for mounting backups of disks that I've saved on my hard drive. Sometimes I'll use it to burn an .iso onto a disk.

    Other than that,

I just use the burning program within Windows - there's nothing wrong with it.

Roxio is quite bloated as well, and It has many subcomponents that take up tremendous amounts of HD space that I do not use/need. I have not tried to use it since I switched to Nero several years ago. For example Roxio and Nero are ~1.2 GB and ~250 MB, respectively. Most of the program mentioned in this thread are ~10 MB or less.

Nero 8 works perfectly for me. When I installed, I chose custom and deselected most of the unnecessary apps.

I tried some of the free programs mentioned but none that I DLed seemed to offer DVD-video burning. I did however get nero 8 which works great on vista. I did the bare minimum install though because nero is getting to be a hassle. As far as roxio, the burner thinkpad came with, I did not play around with it too much, but it seemed pretty crappy to me, and I quickly uninstalled it.
