The LCD cable has a little protector that looks like a black tube on the ribbon. I broke it and superglue won't hold it together.

I couldn't get a replacement part number. Is this part of the LCD cable assembly?

The replacement parts numbers are listed in the Hardware Maintenance Manual of your system.

Check your system model type code (there should be a sticker underneath your system) and then look at the LCD FRUs under the Parts List section. There are a number of variants of the LCD Cable Assembly, but say if you got bluetooth but no webcam then you need the "LCD cable assembly without camera, with Bluetooth" and so on. If you got a LED screen then you specifically need the LED backlight version of the cable.

So I got a new LCD cable, it doesn't come with it...

Does anyone know what this part is actually called, and I couldn't find any mention of it in the hardware maintenance manual.

Apologies if we guided you to the wrong part flock, from the image you shown us we assumed its the LCD cable assembly rather than bezel itself.

If you want I be happy to reimburse you half the costs of the cable via PayPal so you can buy the right part (here hoping lead_org will be just as charitable!) Just PM me the original cost of the cable and your email address so I can compensate you for it (luckily for me its payday today! x_x).

i can reimburse the cost of the cable, so yeah just give me the paypal account.

P.S. I guess i will have to speak to the IBM service personnel, whom told me this is part of the cable, when depot damaged the cable cover of my T400.

fwiw, the cable protector has come with T-series LCD covers for over eight years.   you must have spoken with the one IBM service tech in all of Australia who's never worked on a ThinkPad LCD.   haha :D

Thanks for being honest about it, I don't need reimbursement. I can sell it on eBay or the forums?

I'll look into the LCD cover package. I wonder, can this little part be ordered separately?

I doubt it, but perhaps you can find the individual part on eBay. There are many ebay sellers who have all kinds of small parts for ThinkPads and other laptops.

If your T400 still has warranty on it I would call Lenovo support and see if they are willing to help you.

That is actually not surprising, half of the tech i speak to over the phone don't have real experiences with thinkpads. Mostly newbies to Thinkpads, the oldies are usually on after 6 pm, but they tend to be grumpy and i like to avoid them (also they would just ask you to call back during the working hour).

P.S. People whom have lot of experience with Thinkpads and is not grumpy are team leaders or have became managers.

Well if the ribbon protector is the same size as the one that came T500's LCD cover parts that I ordered a while back from IBM then I would probably send you it for free.

I really have no use for it because I only needed the LCD cover parts kit for the front and back screen bezel/cover

Alrighty... you guys seriously make me paranoid sometimes. :p

When I swapped over to the LED screen on my T400 I didn't swap the protector over, apparently; it was still on the CFFL cable I've got stashed away if I ever need to swap back.

The good news is that the one from the T500 will fit. Yay for having a T400 and a T500 to compare, hehe.

Now, I guess my next project is to take all of that stuff apart just to install the cover on my T400... :/

Look, it can't hurt to ask. I have been pleasantly surprised in the past. Worst case, they decline.
