To avoid hi-jacking of the Windows 7 thread ...
Running Windows 7 x64 on my ThinkPad T500, and my brightness is all of a sudden at near-minimum. I've tried using the slider and the keyboard shortcuts, but nothing will turn it back up; it seems to reset itself, after adjusting the slider.
It always stays at the same minimum-ish setting, which, obviously, is immensely annoying. If it's worth mentioning, it happened on the first boot, after I'd used the laptop without the power cord plugged in.
For some reason, I can change the brightness effectively during boot, but when logging in, the problem kicks in.
Please advize, as this practically renders my laptop useless. :/

Do you check your power schemes? Like on-battery scheme, plugged-in scheme etc.
It will save those same settings so when you reboot it is probably reapplying them. -
Also, if I've been away from the computer for a while, the Brightness indicator will show up on-screen, when I move the mouse or use the keyboard, like waking up from some kind of sleep. -
I figured that since Power Manager was acting so badly, I might as well uninstall it to see if it caused the issue - and lo! It was the culprit.
Problem solved.
Brightness locked at ultra low settings
