    Hi all,

After installing SP1, my brightness display adjustment disappeared. oddest thing. I can adjust my brightness in the windows mobility center, or using the hotkeys, but those are only temporary adjustments. It would reset when I reboot.

The option to control the brightness with percentages (or the slider) under "power options" is just no longer available.

Anybody know how to get it back?

Did you try using the Thinkvantage Power Manager to adjust brightness using profiles?

I don't have any of the thinkvantage tools installed. I did a "clean" vista install.

I have the same problem. Probably has to do with the power management driver. Very annoying.

You should consider reinstalling the power manager. It's one of the more useful Thinkvantage applications. You can tweak your battery charge cutoffs through it as well.

It is very irritating. I'd rather not install the thinkvantage power manager, but I guess I"ll have to.

If I didn't have to use vista for work, I'd have ubuntu on this machine. ugh.

Did you upgrade your graphic drivers to the intel generic version? If so thats your problem. Get the official Lenovo/IBM version and it should be restored.

This is off topic, but is there a list of the bloatware to remove and the programs to keep when sweeping the computer?

I'm using the latest generic Intel graphics driver and the brightness adjustment and OSD are both ok. Make sure you also get:
    - Latest Lenovo BIOS
    - Latest Lenovo Hotkey driver

I'm having the same problem with a clean x64 business install, drivers are all the latest as of today. Power manager did not solve my problem on my previous install where i also had the problem, hence todays clean install.

The previous install is only a couple of days old and also a clean install, i wanted to fix this issue but i haven't been lucky so far.

I have the 140m card btw, is it possible that this is a problem with the nvidia driver? I didnt get mine from lenovo, i'm using 169.47 whql from laptopvideo2go.

Btw i used Stallen's guide and so i'm running the bare minimum.

Edit: Found a workaround by setting the profile to power saver and setting default brightness there, still wont keep settings from the keys but im not blinded when the screen comes back on :)

I had the same problem on my T60 but now it is solved

    What I did was:

I installed the newest driver for HotKey
    It didn't seem to help.
But suddenly I came to press FN + F7 then FN + PrtSc/SysRq ... and then I could adjust the brighness of the screen again.

I hope it helps you guys too. Spread the solution if it does, many others seem to have the same problem as well, without having solved it yet.

    Cheers
    HH
