Hey guys,
I have read multiple threads in the past about the OSD brightness issues where the display does not come up. I am one of those who has that problem and has learned to live with it. My volume control and caps lock OSD indicators always seem to work.
However, when I resume from sleep and want to change the brightness, there is a solid 5 second delay and the OSD will show up. If I click Fn+ Home 3 times, five seconds later, it only adjust 1 up. It is very weird and slow. Does anyone have a solution to speeds this up? Before entering into sleep after a fresh restart, it will switch the second I press Fn+ home or end...but it won't show up on the OSD....which I am used to...but after resuming from sleep, it is so slow to switch brightness....what in the world is going on here?

I am afraid I can't help you eyecon82, but I can however tell you and others about my recent discovery on my X61, which is a bit similar to your experience.
My brightness OSD never worked either, until yesterday evening. The only thing I can think of, is that I installed the latest version of Rescue and Recovery. After restarting my system nothing had changed, until... I closed the lid (which is set to only shut off the screen, not go to sleep mode). And when I opened the lid again and the screen turned on, the brightness OSD suddenly appeared for the first time ever.
And the brightness OSD is now active all the time. I however need to close the lid to shut off the screen and open it again, for it to turn on after a new boot.
There is no 5 second delay. It is their instantly. Adjusting the brightness is not an issue either. So there you go.
I have no idea what happened, but I am happy that it works now. -
wow..mine randomly started working too...i didnt even change anything and the lag has seemed to disappear for now..very odd indeed
