Hallo all,
Please help me I am in a problem.
I bought T23 (PIIIM-1130-40-512-COMBO) as second hand from a seller who is near to my area.
It had already Win-XP installed but the german one.. I wanted to install Win-XP the English version. BUT IT DOES NOT LIKE TO BOOT FROM THE CD!! ok I went to the boot settings, and chose to boot first from the cd drive, but when i restart, it boots automatically from the hard disk.
The seller told me to bring it and come back in another time to pick it ready, but he is a bit far and i dont have time for that.
Please can anyone help me?
greetings from Germany

Ich liebe Deutschland!
It's a real copy of the XP cd right? Not a copy? If it's a copy, that could explain why. I would also check to see if there are any BIOS updates available for that notebook.
Otherwise, I don't have any ideas how to force it to boot from the cd drive.
When you boot to windows, does it read the cd in there? -
The CD is original Win-XP. It has licence to the Institute where I work, and it is legal to use it.
When I inser the CD while Win-XP is running.. it start up with the automatic menue.. so the CD is not damaged -

Sounds almost like you are using a upgrade disc, and not a full install?

This happened to me when I bought an old IBM notebook. I tried over & over to boot from CD-ROM but no luck. Even tho I set BIOS to do so. I tried many bootable CD's.
In the end I had to buy a $15 adapter to hook the notebook harddrive to my desktop, and load the OS that way.
Thats probally what you might have to do, or connect HD to other laptop and install.
I sold the IBM for about $75, but never figured out why it wouldn't boot from CD-ROM drive.
Maybe you can try loading a differ BIOS. I never tried that solution. -
I also heard about such problems with the old versions of Thnkpads.
Anyway, I think the best solution is to give it to the seller to install my Win XP on it for me " as he said".
But this question is still opened, because it is not such ptactical to send the notebook to the seller anytime I want to install WinXP on it..
Thanks for all who tried to answer, and I wish to get more answers.
Ali, and special greetings from Germany -
To me it sounds like your thinkpad doesn't have an original IBM optical drive. That would be one thing explaining why your T23 doesn't boot from CDROM

When you power it up. Try hitting f12 to bring up the boot device menu and select your cdrom from there. That should do it for you.
Brave enough to solve this question?
