Just got my X201 today..coming from a X301. Is there a good way condition the battery for first use and all that? I've never done that with any laptop, figured I'll start with this one.

    Fully charge the battery.
Use the laptop on battery until battery runs out.
    Fully charge the battery.
Use the laptop on battery until battery runs out.

After training/conditioning the battery as above, you can use the battery in any patterns as you wish.

EDIT: You may want to create the Recovery disks (1 boot CD, 2 data DVDs). An external USB CD/DVD burner is needed, of course.

No. If a new battery doesn't come with full capacity, then they fu**ed up the slow initial charging. There is nothing you can do to increase the capacity.

    I just received my x201.
Could you be a little more specific about "until battery runs out"?
The default setting is supposed to hibernate at 5% level.
Should I disable this setting so that battery runs out totally for conditioning?

the battery is already conditioned when they ship from factory, you don't have to do it.

Also, never discharge a Li-ion battery below 5% power level (it should be set to 10% before hiberation by the Windows), otherwise you will kill it.
