    Hi guys!
I've just got my first laptop - kick-ass T61 - delivered and I'm very excited! It took 4 week to ship it to me :)
Probably a dumb question but still what should I do now?
Should I charge the battery, install XP instead of Vista, register the laptop serial number?
    What else?
    Thanks!

get 7k200 rpm hard drive, upgrade to 4gb ram, buy a nice book case, then buy a notebook sleeve. After all that look at how much you spent on it and cry

Show it off to your neighbours by dumping a cup of water all over the keyboard ;).

seriously do a clean install mainly.

Assuming it's a 2GB USB flash drive which supports ReadyBoost disk caching technology.

^^ what he said except its a HiSpeed SDHC that I keep in the Card reader slot all times for that purpose. Like to keep my usb slots free if possible for other things.

If you plan to install Windows XP, I recommend you use the guide in my signature. It works 100% with all the drivers accounted for in device manager. No exclamations.

As for now, I suggest you charge your battery, create recovery discs, update windows, configure your settings, buy a laptop bag, etc.

    Thank you very much!
Definitely I'm gonna use this guide, it's straight-forward.

I'm just thinking about Vista vs XP. Haven't tried the new Microsoft OS yet. Should I keep it?

Vista isn't a bad OS at all. I'm still using XP because it's very compatible with my needs. The XP Pro disc itself is pretty expensive. If you choose to clean install Vista, which I suggest if you're keeping it, use the Vista guide in my signature. It's only like $5.00 for the Vista CD opposed to the $100 for the XP (unless you buy it from a college).

I'm really liking vista right now despite its occasional crappy errors and compatibility issues, but if you game, keep vista, install xp, and go back to vista when you feel like it.
