could it be something with either the processor or video card settings for battery usage?

Did the deletion of the ATI Hotkey Poller fix your DVD Skipping issues?

yes!! i have another brand new 2623 D6U played a dvd out of the box and it did the same as the one I sent back. had I recd the info earlier I would have kept the thing. This one has a faint dark bottom corner issue, last one did not. This is my 4th thinkpad in trying to get one right... why doesnt lenovo know that the units have this problem? I would think thousands of people would complain

    Thanks for the great help!!

:( I think this related to the Multiburner delay that Lenovo is having. I threw up a post here : http://forum.notebookreview.com/showpost.php?p=1357183&postcount=8

Basically, It's a Lenovo Manager telling me that there's something terribly gone wrong with Multiburner units, so they've delayed mine (and anyone else's with this Multiburner) Z60-series until it's resolved.

Try using some other software to watch your DVD's, that will do the trick.
At least that has worked out for some other people.
Since I did not use the bundled one I never noticed this.

Get the VLC player from here. It will play any format you throw at it, including DVDs, and it's free too.

Maybe the administrators can put an end to this problem appearing here once and for all, by compiling a solution (which has NOTHING to do with the Lenovo hardware) and posting it as a sticky ? Many people could benefit from that.

Personally, i remove ATI Hotkey Poller from ANY machine I see it on, not just the Lenovo.
