Well, I finally got around to repasting because my temps have been a little too high lately. Only one problem, one of the three screws that screws the palmrest into the battery bay was fused. I ended up stripping it out, and accidentally broke the palmrest getting it off. Upon further inspection on the top side of the notebook, I see just a blob of metal and plastic where the screw is. It's the one that's closest to the fan. I had posted in OT that twice my T410 auto shutdowned because of heat while playing Crysis, which means it reached 100C both times. :( I tried to take pics but they came out blurry, I'll try again in a bit.
The good news is, the fan is finally quiet and temps are much better now (even better than before when I had the palmrest off).
So what I should I do now? I was already thinking of getting the port replicator 3, that way I have a power button and can remove the keyboard.

Ok I have a pic that came out better. You can see the screw just above the battery bay on the left right next to the fan. It's right underneath the HDD indicator light.

I'd try the simplest approach. Go on eBay and buy a new palm rest. :) You can probably get an extra screw too, if you can measure its diameter and length.

get a power drill and use that to drill out the old screw.

I suppose if I used a tiny bit that might work, but I don't want to damage my computer any more if I can help it. That's a good idea, thanks. :)

Look for a screw extractor kit similar to this (which says it is too big for laptop screws although a year or two back a forum member successfully used this or something similar to remove a stripped screw).

I used this to remove a stripped screw from a customers X61 a couple of years ago. It is like a reverse drill bit. As it digs into the head finally enough grip is available to back out the screw.

Thanks, I'll try that! I've got it put back together for now.
