So I decided I would 'disable all' start ups via msconfig as I wanted a faster boot up time (and response time once booted up), was prompted to restart, did so, and now the screen will not go past a continuously loading "checking for embedded security chip" message (a message that is normally present for a few seconds before the blue MS Windows screen).
Can anyone with any knowledge on this matter please assist me, as i'm sure there must be a way around this besides reloading Windows via the back-up CDs.
By the way, I selected 'disable all' as i've searched the web looking for a comprehensive tutorial that lists all start ups (or processes) safe to disable, so that I may bring my processes below 80 atleast (yes 80 - default Lenovo software - thought i'd disabled everything absolutely unnecessary).
Thanks

Can you boot into safe mode and re-enable them items you unchecked?
-
What do I press during boot up to enter safe mode?
-
Okay, F8 is NOT going to the bios screen. Instead, after the Windows loading screen, everything goes black, and it then continues to the "Checking the status of the embedded security chip" screen.
Update: Okay, I got into safe mode. I was pressing F8 upon the Windows loading screen (too late) as per a website recommendation (not notebookreview.com). Now the notebook is restarting with defaults selected.
It seems to have booted up normally, but it is a bit slower now due to all of the defaults being selected. I've been in search for a master list (for ThinkPad users preferably) that simply outlines which start ups and processes can safely be disabled in order to speed boot up time...but to no avail). Any suggestions (besides the guide on Notebookreview.com?)

Just do them one at a time now that you know how to fix it. If you can get a OEM disc you can do a clean install. That's what I did. Other than the drivers, the only apps I installed were:
1 Power Manager
2 Easy Eject
3 UltraNav
4 Hard Drive Protection
5 Diskeeper
6 PC-Doctor
I could probably dow without the last two, but hey I paid for them. -
Will the back up DVDs that I made once I received the machine, work to load only the OEM and those specific programs?
-
No they restore it to the factory state.
Boot up will not complete
