    It's a ThinkPad part. I don't think you'll have any trouble with it. You might want to see if it comes with any software. You'll have to buy it otherwise and Blu-ray playback software isn't cheap.

    Hmm, why isn't it an option on the slim ultrabay systems? Seems weird... I wondered if there were known driver conflicts or something preventing its inclusion as an option.

    It was for a little while, but I would guess few probably ordered it so they stopped offering it. I don't think it's anything on the technical side. You must remember ThinkPads are mostly sold to large institutional buyers who in turn hand them out to employees. They probably don't want to pay extra so the employees can watch movies. IdeaPads, which are more consumer based, have Blu-ray options.
