    Morning folks.

I am looking at getting one of the lower end T or Z models, but neither line's lower end models come with bluetooth, while the higher end ones do.

From this product page ( http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-62784) it seems as tho the BDC-2 (FRU#39T0497) fits into a slew of T60's and Z60's, but specifically not the lower end models.

Is this a marketing thing or a real problem thing. Is it possible to put bluetooth into a T60 (1953D6U) that doesnt have it as an option? I can get the part here ( http://www.sparepartswarehouse.com/searchresults.aspx?pn=39T0497) for about $40, but dont want to spend the cash and have it not work, for obvious reasons.

    Anyone done it?

    Thanks a bunch.

    Thanks for the reply,

I'm actually looking at trying to get one of the $1000 range laptops from IBM (through the EPP) but they dont have bluetooth, so rather than spend the extra $400 for bluetooth, is there a way to add it to the models that say they cant take them while the rest of the line can??

    Thanks

Adding bluetooth to a non-bluetooth model is more complicated than you thought. You need the bluetooth daughter card, a new LCD ribbon cable and a new bluetooth clearplate. I am not sure if replacing the LCD ribbon cable will void the warranty though.

    Bleh,

I take it you have done this before renhui?

Does the same apply to all models or only the T series?

    Thanks a bunch

I upgraded a Z series a few months ago. All I needed was the BT module and a different LED cover plate. Total cost was something around $50-$60. I had to remove the LCD bezel and plug the BT module into the daughterboard located beneath the LCD. I then used an Exacto knife to pry up a corner of the LED cover plate then I removed the plate altogether. The replacement cover plate is actually a set of plates that has every configuration of WiFi, BT, WAN, etc. that Lenovo sells. Just find the one that has all the options your model has and stick it on. The whole process took about 10 minutes.
