I order a new t400 a week ago with a 128gb ssd, the shipping is delayed until march 20th and i got to thinking maybe i would rather have the blueray instead of the SSD that way i can burn video from my hd camcorder to blue to watch. any thoughts from anyone on these 2 opitons?

I would get a thirdparty SSD separately, they are generally faster and use less power yet cheaper than the 128GB MLC; however, I think now Lenovo only allow you use their own drive...
Given you are paying for a rewriter, its all fine for data writing; though, Bluray on 14 inch screen? honestly the price premium is quite... also T400 does not have hdmi/displayport, so the bluray will only be good for data writing, might as well get a external rewritter for a fractional the cost.
Or pick up a 500GB HDD+WD's 1080p player, which can curry a few HD movies, without risks of scratching the physical media.

However, if you must have one of the two, I'd rather have the SSD, as its better for mobility of the laptop... -
If you got the cash, I don't see a reason to stop you, but as noted Blu-ray is expensive. If you change your order, you'll have to cancel and re-order.
-
Well canceling and re ordering wouldn't be any fun. i guess more of my concern and the reason i though money might be better spend on the blue-ray is due to ssd reliability how will the hard drive hold up to hdv video capture if every couple weeks i capture 10gb of video on there for editing. i don't want the drive to fail under this kind of use
-
Both SSD and regular harddisks are reliable enough for your purposes. However, seeing how video data can consume a lot of space, I would suggest a larger drive instead of a solid state. Your bottleneck is unlikely to be the harddisk when editing
-
that is good to hear, what amount of video capture may be to much? the space is not a problem i will be editing the files into smaller clips and burning to windows media hd format on standard dvd if i don't get the blue ray, i think given how slow vista can be i will be glad to have the ssd for boot and load times.
Blueray or SSD on T400
