    Hi everyone,

About an hour ago I had my first blue screen on my T60P :( I was running Firefox and was in the process of opening Windows Media Player when it occurred. Honestly, I was in shock when I saw it, and by the time that it registered that I should write down what it says, my laptop was already restarting itself. All I know is that it was dumping some stuff...? I opened Windows Media Player again to test and no blue screen...

A couple of you may recall a thread I posted about my having a DVD drive problem (code 10--wouldn't start) a couple weeks ago. I then got it to work again after uninstalling ITunes (after I had just reformatted my hard drive thinking that was the problem).

Is this in any way related to the blue screen? Or is the blue screen an isolated incident? Why did it happen? Do I need to do anything? I'm not sure if I really want to talk to Lenovo's customer service people again. Should I be upset with Lenovo or Vista or both? :p

    Sorry for my newbie-ish questions.

    Thanks in advance!

Well, it is hard to determine why blue screens occur, otherwise there would have been a fix to it and blue screens would never exist. No worries your laptop is fine, IBM/Lenovo computers tend to have more blue screens than usual. The best way to prevent blue screens from occurring is by updating the drivers and the software on your computer. Go to the Think Vantage Software Installer. Once all drivers and software are up to date, these problems should rarely happen if at all. But if they continue, it may be due to incompatible software, so you may want to uninstall any recently added software to solve the issue if it persists.

Might want to look in Event Viewer to see if there's any info that can help.

If this is the first time and no drivers have been updated I'd be worried. Computers really shouldn't BSOD.

Turn off automatically restart on error.

I looked and didn't see much... but of course I'm not sure exactly what to look for. Would you mind elaborating...? :)

By the way, thank you all for the replies! :)

Usually when you get a BSOD something shows up in the event viewer with a red x by it saying error. Make sure to check all the logs. They can be difficult to figure, but sometimes can point to a solution. It may just be a one off thing. I got a BSOD on my T41 one first times I used it, but never had one again.

You should be worried; I bought a T60p a couple of months ago and had a blue screen... then another, and another... I convinced lenovo to take it back, as the thing was a total lemon. I'm waiting for my t61p now.

In event viewer right click Application, Find and search word DUMP. This will locate the event 1001 I think, the first line should describe the casue of the event.

Strangely, I've NEVER had a computer that didn't blue screen on my during the first few hours of ownership. Each time it's never happened again (at least regularly or without some kind of fudging with drivers). I've just decided that new systems need a little "break in time" to stretch their legs :)

Point being, see if it's a repeatable or recurring problem. If not, I wouldn't sweat it too much. If it happens again, I'd worry.

First off, thank you all for your input! It sounds like that if it happens again THEN I should worry. For now, I'll shake it off.

Okay, I went to event viewer and did the search and found it. This is what it says; I'm not sure how to interpret it:

    Fault bucket 0x124_GenuineIntel_CPER_Sev_1, type 0
    Event Name: BlueScreen
    Response: None
    Cab Id: 0

Intel driver seems to be a problem, not to familiar with Vista. You'd think that intel would know how to write a good driver with them being the big kid on the block in the computing world.
